Andy wins his first Super Late Model Main Event! After many close calls, Andy was able to hold off a fast charging Mike Johnson for his first win in a Super Late Model.
17 Late Models signed in for Bakersfield late model class, Andy qualified 6Th and finished third in his heat race, and after the pill draw was slated to start outside poll along side Bill Bartel. At the drop of the green flag Andy fell into second behind Bill but was able to pressure Bill into a slight mistake and was able to pull away from the field. A lap 16 caution erased a half track lead but Andy was once again able to build up a large lead. Another caution on lap 23 put Andy just ahead of hard charging Clay Daly and fast closing in Johnson...And was able to hold off Johnson by half a car for the $1500.00 dollar win.

The "Nationals" at Santa Maria Speedway brought 24 Late Models to run for the $5000.00 winner's check. Andy qualified a solid 6Th, best qualifying run in a while. Andy was in the first heat which had 5 out of 6 of the fastest qualifiers in the race, needing to finish 4Th or better to transfer into Sunday's main event Andy was only able to get a 5Th which would put him on the front row for Sunday's B main.
Andy started on the pole and led all 12 laps for a B main win placing him 13Th for the main event. After 40 laps of non-stop action Andy ended up with a nice 12Th place finish, the car was much better throughout the weekend and the crew is encouraged with the prospects of a good mid-season run. Next up Calistoga, the famous and fast historic half mile.
Also a big welcome goes out to a New Sponsor "J and J Cleanup Service ...In God We Trust" Thanks for coming on board.....

Bakersfield Speedway had 12 Super Late Models return for their local Late Model Series. After spending about 60 man hours repairing the car from last week's mishap at Santa Maria Speedway, Andy struggled with the handling of the car and the motor was not performing up to snuff either.

Deciding to go back to a more basic set up and after a carburetor change Andy and crew didn't know what to expect for the main event. Starting shotgun on the field Andy was moving up quickly through the field and after about 6 laps was in 6Th place and moving toward the front. Then bad luck struck again....the fan belts came off and of course Andy had to pull off to prevent the motor from over heating. The good news is Andy loved the way the car handled and was confident that he would of had a top three finish.

Next race is "the Nationals" at Santa Maria Speedway on Memorial Weekend.
Obertello racing would also like to welcome J and J Clean Up Service as a new Sponsor. Welcome!

Ocean Speedway

15 Ocean Speedway Modifies signed in for another night of weekly racing. Andy pulled a decent number and started second row outside in his heat race, with a third place finished he was excited to start towards the front of the field for the main event.

With a few minor adjustments Andy settled into running between fifth, six and seventh...slight contact with another car while both were passing a lapper cut down a left rear tire and after slowing was creamed by said lapper wrecking the left rear suspension and after semi quick thing by the crew was able to bandaid the car back together and manage a 9the place finish 6 laps down.

Thanks to all of our wonderful sponsors and crew, Next race for the Mod is 05/27/11 at ocean Speedway

23 Super Late Models checked in. Andy and crew spent most of the night battling little gremlins with the handling of the car, not being able to qualify well put the number 29 in the back of his heat. Still battling handling problems Andy slap the turn two wall and bent the right front suspension putting him in the b-main. Starting last of 8 cars Andy was moving up and would have made a transfer spot but a slower car spun in front of Andy coming off turn two and was darn near destroyed by another car that didn't react or forgot to slow down or whatever.... Andy was a little shacken and the car was tore up and our night was over.....next race 05/21/11 in Bakersfield.....Thanks to everybody and alot of hard work we will be there.
